What would you guys like to see out of a homepage design? What info do you like to see the first time you come on?
I was thinking some sort of activity stream, most popular photos (because then there's the community moderation aspect, and explicit pictures won't immediately appear on the homepage) and users online.
The previous bold phrases are good ideas. Other good ideas may include a small summary of the most recent changelog, at least while we're in alpha/beta.
I want articles from staff, involving lists of new WiiU/3DS releases, general commentary of what people have been talking about that week on the forums, any notable Nintendo news, website changes if they are likely to occur past release, birthdays, and whatever the staffer wants to write. I'd be happy to do this on a weekly basis if nobody else will. It would need a simple CMS, obviously, and you'd only want to feature the most recent article on the homepage while still allowing access to the previous ones somewhere (not top navigation).
any notable Nintendo news
Yeah I'd like this too. I always enjoyed the news part of OCW even if I heard about it from somewhere else first lol.
It's interesting that you guys want Nintendo news. I figured nobody from OCW ever used that. The thing is, would anybody keep the news articles coming other than Jon? I feel like a once or twice a week thing just isn't frequent enough now that everybody is so used to constant updates on FB, Twitter and the like.
I'll have to reconsider and see what other people want too
Is there a way to get some odd RSS feed of Nintendo news to fill in by itself?
It wouldn't be a "omg this is the news", it would be a brief digest of what's been ticking over, with flavour from the writer.
Is that something you'd be able to keep up?
Yep, I can do it on Saturdays. I might ask for tip-offs just in case I miss something.
It shall be considered as I mock stuff up!
If you add news, then that takes care of the changelog as well. Recent updates can be posted as news.
I'll try to add news as well. Gotta have something to do during work.
