DJMAX

DJMAX is my favorite rhythm game series.
fuck you
If anyone here actually has the Vita get Technika Tune from the PSN. It's worth the inflated price.
I'm playing this song a lot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nG2qzt6f_Uw

There's misogynistic anime songs, too. If you're into that sort of thing.

Oh hey, I own a Vita.

Maybe I'll get this, then.

The Technika games are touch screen operated and work like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPHYGPJY9G8
You don't HAVE to use the rear touch pad but it makes it easier if you don't have a table to place your Vita on (which is something you might wanna do for the intense songs.)
DJMAX Portable 3 is also the PSN store, which is a great game too. It's a PSP game so it doesn't have higher quality videos like Technika and not as many songs but it's button operated which is a lot more enjoyable for me.

Four buttons is an option, too. There's other DJMAX games for the PSP but those are UMD only unless you pirate them.

I was considering getting this. I've also been looking into getting the most recently released Miku game. Anyone have experience in importing games, and can the Vita region-locked?

Vita isn't region locked, but the PSN store is. If you want to buy anything for JP-region only games like Project Diva, you'll need a separate memory card to make or use a JP PSN account. It helps to do so anyway, if you can afford it.

As for buying the games, I usually either use play-asia or amiami. There's a guide, somewhere, but I don't have it at the moment.

Technika and Project Diva-f are both fantastic and you should definitely import them both ok. Vita is region free y'all.

I thought my PSN account was locked to the device itself.
So I can
a. Import the physical game or
b. Get a second memory card, make a JP PSN account and download from store?

Yes they would both work. The console is soft locked to your account so you have to reset the device to switch accounts. It's a lot less scary than it sounds in reality. Takes a couple of minutes.

I did it a lot for a while but I move around a lot and I've grown weary of having to set up all my wireless networks and whatnot every time I change accounts so now I'm slowly importing my collection of digital Hong Kong games as hard copies.

I actually bought PSN codes from Play-Asia and a 4 GB memory card so I could play the Japanese version of Technika Tune two months early.
Best waste of money I've ever made.

The PSN account is locked to the device: however, if you have a separate memory card, you can save all your game saves/data on one card, and when you want to use the JP PSN store, switch to a new memory card, deactivate the account on your Vita and sign in with the JP PSN account.

It's a lengthy process and not recommended unless you want to get something digitally off the JP PSN store or want DLC for the game.

The reason being is that Sony updated the Vita firmware so that your account is also tied to the memory card, so you can't just use the same memory card anymore and back up the files elsewhere, like on your PS3 or PC.

Yup that's pretty much what I did for Project Diva-f and I don't even like vocaloid that much. I just pitch a tent for rhythm action games and figured we'd probably miss out on about 80% of the good ones that get released on the vita. I've since used my HK account for Technika Tune and Persona 4 Golden so in the end I figure it was worth it.

Okay. Thanks for the help. Why would they do that, though? It seems like they're trying to stop themselves from making money.

DJMAX was localized anyway. And you could always buy a hard copy of Miku (and DJMAX if you don't live in North America.)

Probably the opposite: now you have to buy a new memory card if you want certain features for JP games.

At least there's no region lock, unlike the 3DS and Wii U.

Figured I'd bump this up to say I've gotten Technika Tune for the Vita and oh boy. I was not prepared for the touch screen controls.

Which is, to say, they're terrible.

Maybe I'm not doing this right, but I've tried holding it, putting it down on a flat surface, propping it on something, etc, and every way results in hands/fingers getting in the way and blocking my view of the upcoming notes. Much, much prefer the button style of regular DJMax. Feeling kinda burned about buying it but oh well, nobody's fault but my own.

The Vita was really not made for touch-only games.
